Groveton sits along the Richmond Highway corridor in Fairfax County, carrying an Alexandria address without being inside the city. Most of what stands here went up in the years right after the Second World War, when the corridor filled in fast with brick ramblers and modest colonials. Those houses were built with real masonry chimneys and clay tile liners, and that first generation of liner is now roughly seventy years into a service life nobody planned to extend.<\/span><\/h3>\n

We perform all inspection levels defined by NFPA 211. Groveton is a Level 2 neighborhood more often than not, because the tile liners here are old enough that a visual check from below tells you almost nothing. The camera goes up the flue. A full brushing of the flue to clear soot, creosote, and any blockage restricting airflow. Post-war chimneys along this corridor were built with shorter stacks than the older houses closer to the river, and a shorter stack draws with less force.
