Alexandria covers a lot more ground than the name suggests. The city itself runs from the brick rowhouses off King Street in Old Town out through Del Ray, Rosemont, and the West End. But the Alexandria mailing address reaches well past the city line into Fairfax County, taking in Kingstowne, Franconia, Groveton, Hybla Valley, Belle Haven, Woodlawn, and the Mount Vernon area. That is close to three centuries of construction under a single name, and the chimneys run the whole range with it, from original eighteenth-century masonry to factory-built fireplaces installed in the 1990s.<\/span><\/h3>\n

We hold the Certified Chimney Professional (CCP) and Certified Chimney Reliner (CCR) certifications, meaning we are trained to inspect, diagnose, and repair a chimney to the National Fire Protection Association NFPA 211 code. Alexandria demands that training. A flue built in the eighteenth or nineteenth century was never designed around modern appliances or modern code, and the honest answer on an Old Town chimney is often that it needs a liner rather than a sweep.<\/p>\n

We perform all inspection levels defined by NFPA 211. In Alexandria the Level 2 inspection carries most of the weight, because a chimney this old has usually been altered, repointed, or partially rebuilt at some point by somebody.
